Cuba

What a beautiful place! What a great family vacation!
The Cuban people are so beautiful and kind. They would walk past Reid and touch his head or make faces at Laila. They wanted to talk to both of them at every meal. Staff would come and take Laila out of our arms and play with her. They were amazed to see her jumping in her jolly jumper. The resort had many Cuban families vacationing because there is a holiday in Cuba this week. Reid would watch all the little kids playing in the kids pool, wanting to go over, but not sure what to say. We would encourage him, go over and say ola. He would walk all the way across the pool and say, "Ola, little boy." They would sometimes throw a ball to him and then start talking in Spanish and then Reid would just stare at them and then come back to play with Mommy or Daddy.
The beach was hours of fun. Reid stomped down all of the sandcastles that we made. No one got a sun burn, not even me!
Jeff and I went out twice and had a babysitter stay while the kids slept. Nap time and bed time we would talk and read outside of our room on the patio and stare out at the ocean view.
The food was delicious, especially since I didn't have to cook it. Reid loved the french toast with the layer of sugar on top of it! The ice cream was out of this world and the pork was full of delicious fat. My kind of food. We are eating vegetables all week this week though.
The flights were non eventful, yesterday they even slept for more than an hour on the flight.
The kids were both sick and not sleeping very well, but it didn't matter. They loved the new sights and sounds, especially the very shallow kids pool. We would use our imaginations and pretend to make soup in the water or serve each other coffee or imagine the local birds were attacking us from the pool drains. He would grab my arm and shiver pretending to be scared saying, " I'm scared."
Jeff and I worked as a great team, making sure the kids were fed and happy. There was only one moment during the week when I thought this was a bad idea. It was during one of the nights when Reid was the most sick, coughing almost constantly, keeping everyone awake. But, the next morning we went to the beach and he smiled and laughed in between his coughs. My favourite moment was when I was digging a big hole in the sand with Reid singing the sleeping bunny song and then he would jump into it. A lady taking a walk on the beach past us and said, " What a joy." A great memory.
We will definitely go back. Next year will be even more fun!
