Laila's Baptism and First Birthday

Kelli's cupcake clown cake and Grandma Mary's house.

A strawberry shortcake for the baptism and an ice cream cake for her birthday cake at Grandma Jane's house.

Yes, she's wearing a cape.

Costume change! Laila's now wearing her yellow birthday dress and a tiara.

I'm one year old!

Last weekend we baptized Laila and celebrated her first birthday in Ottawa. She loved having Happy Birthday sung to her and eating cake. Unlike Reid's first birthday, this was not her first time eating cake with sugary icing. She dove into that cupcake cake that Kelli made like a pro and the next day attacked that strawberry shortcake like it was going to be taken away from her. She didn't cry at her baptism, but wanted to practice her walking so she squirmed and wiggled until Jeff took her around the pews. My mom made an amazing meal despite her oven breaking down that morning (eek!) and everyone gave Laila very generous gifts. Laila now has two gorgeous bracelets. Danelle complained that she doesn't even have one nice bracelet and now Laila has two! Jeff came back to work while the kids and I stayed in Ottawa and got to visit with my grandparents. The highlight of the week for me was getting to run along the canal with my dad. It's always very special when I get to have a long run just with my dad. The highlight of the week for Reid was going to the Museum of Civilization with my mom and being a crane operator. I think the highlight for Laila was going swimming with grandma. Jeff had no highlights in his week, he worked and missed us and then painted the living room for fun.
